Ed and Amy Wilson
When William Carey, the father of modern missions, set sail for Calcutta in 1793, he was never to see his homeland again. Communication between England and India took months, leaving Carey isolated with no one to advise or encourage him. Today’s missionary faces a very different set of circumstances. They are better prepared for the cultural and spiritual challenges they face and they go armed with various electronic ways of staying in touch with those at home.
Such is the case for Ed and Amy Wilson, Colonial missionaries living in Mexico City. When the Wilsons headed south last April, they began a blog (www.mexicominute.blogspot.com) to keep supporters and friends up-to-speed with their activities. As they settled in and began to study Spanish, it became apparent that they were going to need help caring for their 3-year-old son Caleb. Because they were able to communicate easily with their support base, a solution was quickly found. Kaye Sparks heard the prayer request and felt led to defer the start of college in order to assist the Wilsons for the year. The missions display cabinet this month features the Wilsons. Come by and learn more about the children's ministry in which they’re a part. Check out their blog, send them an email; you might even Skype them. Now that really is modern missions! |
