Camp Details

Fall Camp is a wonderful time of spiritual growth and bonding. This camp is directed and led by the Children’s Ministries department of Colonial Baptist Church. We lease a great camp facility called Camp Willow Run in Littleton, NC. Campers will sleep on train cars that have been retrofitted with bunk beds and bathroom facilities. The weekend includes 4 general sessions with singing and teaching from God’s Word, games, crafts, great food and tons of fun. Parents are welcome to attend with their child, and the parents who attend serve as the chaperones for the weekend.

Be sure to ckeck out the media section of this website for photos from past camps.

Participants

Camp is designed for children in grades 3-5. Parents do not need to attend camp with their child. However, parents are welcome to attend and become a chaperone for the weekend. There are at least two chaperones in every cabin. There is nothing that the chaperones need to prepare in advance. The chaperones escort the children through the events of the weekend. More information for the chaperones is HERE.

cabin Housing

Housing at Camp is "Cabin Style". Actually, the cabins are train cars that have been retrofitted with bathrooms and bunk beds. Each train car sleeps 11.

Mealsmeal

All meals are provided from Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch. Meals are cooked by the camp staff and served "family style" in a cafeteria. Remember - dinner on Friday is not provided.

Transportation

Most of the campers and chaperones will travel by charter bus. If for some reason you need to drive to camp, please make sure we know about that in advance.

  • If you are riding the bus, you should be at Colonial at 4:30PM. It takes a little while to get the paperwork verified and get the luggage situated. Don't forget your medical release form. If you do not arrive in time, we will assume you have decided to drive. The bus needs to leave on time for us to maintain our camp schedule. We will not wait for you, even if you call and tell us you are running late. The bus leaves at 5:00. The bus arrives back at Colonial on Sunday at 2:30PM.
  • Those driving to camp should plan to arrive between 6PM and 7PM at the camp facility. The directions are here . You do not need to check in at the church. Dont forget your medical release form. The camp will not allow you to stay without it.
  • Dinner on Friday is not provided.

Camp Mail:

We will have a mail box at the check in area if you would like your child to receive mail during camp.

Packing List:

  • Modest clothing, appropriate for the season.
  • Personal hygiene items and linens. (The train cars have full bathroom / shower facilities.)
  • Sleeping bag or bedding. (The train cars have bunk beds.)
  • Bible and pen.
  • Reusable water bottle to carry around.
  • Spending money for the camp store.
  • Games or other “rainy day” activities "just in case."
  • Medications. If your child needs help with medications, please make sure to note it on the medical release form and include clear instructions.
  • Do not bring any kind of electronic game or device.
  • Do not bring any radios, CD, tape or MP3 players.
  • Do not bring snack foods or drinks. Food is prohibited in the train cars. We will provide snacks.

Logistics

We are going to Camp Willow Run; 1 Mangum Lane; Littleton, NC 27850. Cellular service is a bit spotty at camp, but Pastor Scott's number is 919-669-0394. The number for Camp Willow Run is 252-586-4665. There is a pay phone available for campers.

Chaperones

Thanks for your interest in serving as a counselor at Fall camp. There is nothing specific that you need to prepare for camp. Materials for things such as bedtime devotions will be provided for you. Have in mind the fact that we are here to serve the children and help them have a rewarding and fun time. Be watching for ways to interact with the kids about spiritual matters.

Your mind set should be that you are there to serve the children in your cabin. (Each cabin has 11 beds and at least 2 adults.) Please join in enthusiastically in all of the activities of the camp. You will:

  • Supervise and if necessary correct the children in your cabin.
  • Please be familiar with the camp policies and enforce them with your campers. Our good relationship with Camp Willow Run is very important to us.
  • Guide your cabin through the activities of the weekend.
  • Keep the children in your cabin focused and engaged during the General Sessions. (The speaker should not need to correct the children.) Sit with the children! Do not sit together as adults.
  • Lead your cabin in discussions of the messages using the questions provided.
  • Help the children in your cabin have a fun and safe experience.
  • You can give the children in your cabin some freedom to run and play during free time. Two areas – the canoe area and the ropes course require direct chaperone supervision. You campers can’t go there without you.

THE CHILDREN IN YOUR CABIN ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

Program Staff

In addition to the chaperones, there will also be a program staff. This team will provide the following:

  • Four “General Sessions” for worship and instruction.
  • Large group recreational games.
  • Ideas and resources for crafts, games and other camp activities.
