By combining the resources of the home schooling community with experts in various fields, we can provide assistance to families who make the choice to homeschool. HARC is not a school. Participants are students in a registered home school, and the parents are responsible for the student’s instruction. Parents are responsible to make sure their participation in HARC complies with state law governing home schools. HARC is designed to help parents successfully meet the academic requirements that would ordinarily be difficult to cover only at home. Examples might be science labs, public speaking foreign language and other courses in which a group setting and advanced expertise is required. Each course is designed to assist the student to be a self-learner, with the greatest part of the material covered at home. Homework is an essential aspect of the program. Parents will receive clear course descriptions and requirements in order to stay informed and involved. HARC is structured similar to a college. Classes are offered on a semester basis classes offered are on a semester basis with most classes spanning 2 semesters or 1 full year. Parents choose the courses best suited to the academic needs of their student. Tuition is charged for each class. Courses are not grade specific meaning that students of different grade levels may take the same course. Rather, courses are based on academic proficiency and some classes will have prerequisites. Harc operates on a semester basis of 16 weeks each. The first semester has 1 extra day and the second has 2 days. These are to be used as snow days or at the discretion of the instructor. The Homeschool Academic Resource Center is committed to both Christian principles and academic excellence. HARC is a ministry of the Colonial Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina and operates under the doctrinal statement , philosophy and accountability of Colonial. We employ the very best and most capable instructors available. Our instructors are not necessarily state-certified teachers but they are experts by training and experience in the field they teach.
